Diana's Story
I am an award-winning communications and marketing practitioner with special expertise in issues and crisis management and this journey brought me to my knees.
Diana Degan
In 2009, while she was attending the destination wedding of her younger brother, an incredibly good-looking man started a little light lunchtime conversation with her at the hotel’s dessert buffet and then again, the next night at the latte machine. From that ‘meet cute’ moment, Diana was soon thrown heart first into the role of partner and stepmom of two pre-teen girls. Her partner, and then husband, spent six and a half years in family court together, fighting for the lives and welfare of his children.
She brings a mature, sophisticated, experienced, passionate voice to the table, one that has endured the trauma of being on the front lines of being a stepmom in a high conflict divorce situation.
Since 2001, she has been president of Diana Degan & Associates, which specializes in integrated marketing communications. She has a background in both marketing and public relations and has worked with both agencies and on the corporate side. Throughout her more than 30-year career, she has worked with almost 200 clients from many industry sectors, including launching Beyonce’s fashion line in Canada. Her campaigns have won 36 industry awards and she was named an Agency of the Year five times by the International Association of Business Communicators’ (IABC) Toronto Chapter five times. In 2013, she was also named the Guelph Woman of Distinction in the Business/Entrepreneur Category. Diana has a degree in journalism from Toronto Metropolitan University, her Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) and Certified Advertising Agency (CAAP) designations. Since 2001, she has been a member of the international Blue Ribbon Panel of judges for the IABC international Gold Quill Awards, Canadian Silver Leaf Awards, Toronto Ovation awards and numerous regional awards throughout North America. Diana often speaks at schools, colleges, industry and community events.
Since 2019, Diana has been sharing her expertise with students enrolled in the Marketing and Communications programs at Conestoga College in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. She has taught hundreds of students online and in the classroom. She received the first Conestoga College Faculty Innovation Award for the School of Business in recognition of her work. You can sneak a peek at her in action, by looking up a video on YouTube that the International Department at Conestoga College created to promote the Strategic Marketing Communications program to prospective students all over the world. Diana has a post-graduate certificate in Post-Secondary Teaching.
Diana lives in Guelph, Ontario, Canada with her husband and her two active Abyssinian cats, the beautiful diva of the household, Abi and wee wild Willy. She is currently at work on several nonfiction and fiction books.
